Film Festival

First introduced as a satellite event of the inaugural Edinburgh International Festival in 1947, the film festival now enjoys its own pride of place on the Edinburgh festival calendar as the main event during June and July.  Offering two weeks of cinema screenings, glamorous premieres and a host of fascinating supporting events, it is the oldest continually running film festival in the world.

Initially concentrating on the work of documentary film makers, the festival now enjoys a global reputation for discovering and promoting the very best in international cinema and has been responsible for the first screening of many box office hits and legendary cult film favourites.

The main action of the festival is focused on the Edinburgh Filmhouse with a supporting cast of other screening venues including the Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Fountainpark Cineworld and the Dominion – all just a short walk away from 123 High Street.

Covering a diverse range of movie genres with the spotlight on the most exciting and innovative new film talent from around the world, the Edinburgh International Film Festival is just the ticket for film buffs everywhere!
